Shancai’s family: 

After Shancai and Si got caught in the elevator, Shancai returned home to a hysterical mother. Her mum was angry at her for not texting her and wouldn’t let Shancai explain why. Her father calmed her down and told her to stop yelling at Shancai. Shancai is a princess in her father’s eyes and he will stand up and protect her at all costs. He’s sensible and knows his daughter wouldn’t purposefully upset her mother. He’s reasonable and calm. 

Shanaci gets along well wither family. They both care about her so much and want to be involved in her life, maybe a little too much but it’s out of love. Her mum can get angry at her and threaten to hit her but she loves her with all her heart and just worries about her. 

She especially has a close relationship with her father as he always looks out for her and protects her from her sometimes- crazy mother. 

Her parents aren’t the wealthiest but they work hard to provide for Shancai and they’re always making sure she eats. I’d say they are the most loving family in Meteor Garden. 

 

 

Jing’s Family : 

Jing comes from a very wealthy family who had laid out her whole life for her at a very young age. Jing however wanted to create a new, better life for herself helping people who needed it. She didn’t want her parents money or success. 

At her 24th birthday party she made the shocking announcement that she was moving to Paris and leaving behind her families fortune. She cut off her hair to signify that she’s cutting of her old life and starting new. Her parents however didn’t take this well and in their eyes it was so rude of Jing as they have worked to hard to make sure she succeeded in life. They didn’t support her decision. You can tell they love Jing and want her to have the best life possible but they couldn’t support her decision to give up everything. 

 

 

Si’s Family: 

Si lives with his butler in a huge mansion whilst his parents and sister are away working. One day his sister comes home and we see how they act towards each other. The sister, being older and a working boss lady bullies her brother in a way and takes charge. She pushes see around and physically puts him in his place with force when he’s in the wrong. We see they use violence to sort out problems which explains why Si used physical force on Shancai. It’s what he was taught to do. 

They don’t seem like a close family at all as we haven’t seen Si’s parents yet. They’re always working, and Si rarely sees them. I think Si feels abandoned and alone in his family. His butler is the closest thing to family he has. 

Pride and Prejudice

In Pride and Prejudice the family belong to a society where marriage is the only possible future for a young girl of good family.the social ranking of the family determines how successful they may reasonably expect to be in later life. Austen reveals how each individual character is molded within the family by presenting Jane and Elizabeth as mature, intelligent adults, and Lydia as a hapless fool. The friction between Elizabeth and her mother on the one hand and the sympathy she shares with Mr. Bennet on the other illustrate the emotional spectrum that colors the family's overall character. The influence of Elizabeth's aunt and uncle shows how the family works in an extended sense, with the gardeners  acting as substitute parents, providing much needed emotional support at key moments of stress.

There is a lot of differences between Meteor Garden and P&P relating to family. Marrying off the daughter is not the most important thing and does not determine her success in life. Shancai's parents want her to succeed in college and be independent and fall in love with someone she likes, and not forced. They also have more casual family dinners and they don't go to events to find husbands on the daily. They believe in Shancai and that she can be an independent woman and does not need a husband. Shancai's mother also owns a cooking business by herself and doesn't stay at home.
